Frequently Asked Questions about the Comb Service
To have your sheepskin(s) processed, we ask you to first fill out the registration form at the bottom of this page. You may send the hide(s) to us by mail or bring them in person during our opening hours. If you are sending the hide(s) by mail, please include your contact details on a note inside the box or on the box itself, so we can easily link the hide(s) to your registration.
To ensure that your sheepskin(s) are correctly identified, please write your name on the back of the leather of each hide.
When we receive your hide(s), we carefully process them using our machines. Once the treatment is complete, we will contact you regarding payment. When picking up your hide(s), payment can be made in cash or by card.
Not every sheepskin is suitable for treatment. Older or thinner hides in particular may be more delicate. If you are unsure, feel free to send us a clear photo and we will gladly assess whether your sheepskin is suitable.
On average, the processing time is about two weeks. Our ironing machine operates once every two weeks, which determines the turnaround time.
The treatment involves minimal risk. However, older hides that have become thinner over time may be more fragile. In rare cases, the leather may tear during processing. Therefore, the service is carried out at your own risk, and we cannot accept liability for such damage.
The service costs €12.50 per sheepskin. Return shipping is €15. For sheepskins that are sewn together, we charge the service fee per individual hide, as working with connected hides requires extra time and care. This ensures a fair pricing even for composite sheepskins.
During stretching, the leather is gently tensioned. This makes it more supple and smooth on the backside. It can also help correct slight shrinkage caused by moisture absorption from the environment.
Each sheepskin is passed through our combing machine several times, rotating it slightly with each pass. This restores the wool’s softness and loft while thoroughly removing dust and loose debris.
Over time, the natural lanolin settles deeper into the wool. The heat from the ironing machine redistributes the lanolin evenly over the fibers. This provides natural protection against dirt buildup, restores volume, and gives the sheepskin a healthy sheen.
We do not wash the sheepskin. The combing process removes most dust, loose dirt, and light odors. However, stubborn or deeply set stains cannot be removed with this treatment.
